Steps To Fix Microsoft Exchange Server Error 0x80040600

A corrupt PST file system can make your computer receive errors while trying to send and receive emails in Microsoft Outlook. The PST file, which stores your contacts, email information and calendar details, can get corrupt due to many reasons. These errors can be fixed by running the Inbox Repair tool, which comes built in with the Microsoft Outlook application. Read on to understand the instructions to fix invalid XML errors.

Steps to show Hidden Files
  • Launch the Start menu by clicking the Start orb placed on the bottom left corner of the home screen. Alternatively, you can launch the Start menu by pressing the key imprinted with the Windows logo. 
  • From the Start menu, select the label that reads Control Panel. Instead, you may launch the same using the Run command prompt. 
  • Change the Control Panel window view Classic. To do this, click the link that reads Switch to classic.  
  • From the Control Panel window, select the label that reads Appearance and Personalization. 
  • From the Appearance and Personalization window, select the option Folder Options.
  • Now, hit the View tab at the top.
  • Select the Advanced settings option from the View tab at the top. Select the label that reads Show hidden files and folders and then hit the OK button. 
Steps to repair the PST File
  • Exit Microsoft Outlook if the application is still running. 
  • Launch the Start menu by clicking the Start orb placed on the bottom left corner of the home screen. 
  • From the Start menu, select the label that reads Control Panel. From the Control Panel home Window, select the appellate-labeled User Accounts and Family Safety. If you are unable to find the same, click on the Mail option and then the Data Files, Personal Folders and Settings
  • Copy the location that appears in the Filename text box. The filename will be the location of your PST file. Hit the OK button and then hit the Close option twice.  
  • Locate the scanpst.exe file. Launch the Start menu by clicking the Start orb placed on the bottom left corner of the home screen. Place the mouse pointer in the search space and type scanpst.exe. Double click on the search result to launch the Inbox Repair tool.
  • Place the pointer in the search box and type name of the file you want to scan. Wait for the scan and repair process to finish. Hit the OK button after the inbox tool has finished repairing. You will now be able to read, send and receive mail messages without receiving error 0X80040600.
